BreakFast Isn’t The Only Problem – Studies Need To Focus On After Dinner Snacking

By on February 10, 2014

Much emphasis continues to be put on breakfast, yet it hasn’t exactly amounted to better health. More than what a person eats or doesn’t eat for breakfast, the studies might consider showing what late night snacking is doing to the waistline of every age.

BreakFast, as I’ve said and written many times before is… Breaking the Fast. Morning is a time of elimination. Daytime for eating and night time for assimilating what we ate – it’s that simple. Going against these natural circadian rhythms and eating 24/7 is packing on the pounds. Add to that the so-called foods and drinks that keep you in a constant state of hunger, and you’ve got a perfect recipe for obesity and dis-ease.

“At some point we have to recognize that what we pay for food at the supermarket is not the true cost.”  ~Lexicon of Sustainability..com~

Perhaps the breakfast and cereal makers are funding these studies, which clearly have proft over people as their best interest. Common sense should tell all that even if a teen eats a lousy high sugar and/or gluten laden breakfast each day before school, at least it was followed by them being in the upright position to help digest it (and burn calories). No emphasis on calories because I believe too much attention is put on that too. No amount of fake food calories can do what real food calories can, and that is… quench the need for nutrients that the body is in such dire need of. Don’t be fooled by the word “Natural” either. This 3+ minute video sheds light on the deception of false advertising. Unless it says 100% Organic, it isn’t. Not even “USDA Certified Organic” are all purely natural organic ingredients.

May someone, some where, some time soon focus on where the problems really are. The foods and times eaten, and the sedentary lifestyles of most children. For now, all we can hope is that the parents see to it that they all eat well balanced meals (especially dinner), one with plenty of good fat and fresh vegetables. Only then will people of all ages be satisfied and stop grazing in hopes of satiating their demanding taste buds. Food and drink do not equal love, the person selecting it does. This 3-minute video explains the tragedy of the supermarket. The good news is, if you stick to the four outer walls, you won’t buy into the costs.

After all of our deliciously home cooked meals, mother (who was also my father for 31 years) would say, KITCHEN’S CLOSED! And she meant it, being a young widowed working mom to 6 children at the age of 34. Nowadays if you tell most children that, they darn near see it as child abuse. How times have changed. If the time needed to cook is an issue, rethink your menu and/or do what many in charge of cooking do… cook ahead of time then be done with it for the week.

“Learn how to cook — try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all have fun.”  ~Julia Child~

And the thought should not be… we can’t afford to eat healthy, it should be… how much do I value myself. Because poor food choices and eating around the clock do nothing for the quality or quantity of life. Real food on the other hand, does not come with hidden costs.

Cheers!
