Dehydration, Hyperthermia, Hypothermia and Death – Order At The Border!

Borderland – WHAT a documentary on mind over matter, faith, perseverance, survival and the American dream.

mind over matter: Fig. [an instance where there are] intellectual powers overriding threats, difficulties, or problems.

A valley of death that my father took at the ripe young age of 16. Had he lived past the age of 37, I’d know his story, but I was only 9 and haven’t seen his family since his passing in 1973. What I do know is he was an entrepreneur, loved nature and real food. He came here speaking English, became an American citizen and provided my mother and 5 siblings a great life. We went from well off and mother not having to work, to welfare and me filling in for mother while she worked (despite having 4 older siblings). I was catapulted into learning to cook and care for the others, which has become a blessing in disguise, though in the midst of it, I wanted nothing more than to run away. I didn’t because mother needed me.

“Only a life lived for others is the life worthwhile.” ~Albert Einstein~

Far from my typical posts, and a long time since I’ve written but… I’m here/alive because my father made that journey. I must say, this documentary came at the perfect time. I needed inspiration for my own upcoming journey. And that is to learn the art of growing and making hemp oil on the property he and my mother bought over 40 years ago. Watching that gave me faith to go ahead with roughing it for the next 4-5 months. As scary as it feels, I see it as the vision quest I’ve wanted to take for at least a decade. It is not a matter of a better life or survival for me, it is to help prevent others from drugs, surgery, being left for dead, and/or premature death – all of which my parents endured. With my father’s entrepreneur spirit, his bravery, mother’s strength and both their CAN DO attitudes, I know I’ve got their blessings. I will simply continue to bite my tongue amongst some of the prejudiced folks up there. Sadly, some persons of color are still stereotyped. Ignorance is not bliss.

“If you were to wake up some morning and find that everyone was the same race, creed and color, we would find some other causes for prejudice by noon.” ~George Alken~

May those self righteous see this documentary and realize… fleeing ones country does not only involve persons of Latin decent. They come from all countries. Except, “immigrants” of other descents don’t always endure what these folks do, especially the women and children. Now mind you, I have my own issues with immigration but being prejudiced is not one of them. I do know that like detox, what they did had a huge impact on not only their body, but also their mind and spirit. Most, no doubt became better people for it. Hard work is in their blood. KUDOS to them for going after what they believe in.

“When people rely on surface appearances and false racial stereotypes, rather than in-depth knowledge of others at the level of the heart, mind and spirit, their ability to assess and understand people accurately is compromised.” ~James A. Forbes~

So… aside from hearing some stereotyping against my culture (and another) and the 150+ mosquito bites I got these past couple weeks at the property, this 5-part documentary showed me I have NOTHING to fear (compared to what those families did). The universe and my parents have my back. I will end the past 15 months as a gypsy doing what I know I must do (and finish writing next book). May I come full circle in my healing and continue to fine tune my own purpose. The tears shed during that documentary had me missing my father more than I already do, but even better was the confirmation I received on going forth.

In the meantime… and until this tour of duty is over, my near daily tid bits of health enhancing info can be found here.
