Food Poisoning or Stomach Flu?

By on January 12, 2013

Doesn’t matter! Symptoms (fever, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, nausea, etc) can be similar and remedied the same. I’m amazed at how many people suffer for days with vomiting and/or diarrhea. The upside is you’re detoxing – YAY! Though not by choice. The downside is you can become severely dehydrated and deficient in minerals. Counting on a hospital to take care of us for every ailment is the cause of rising health “care” costs. We all have it in us to heal ourselves AND prevent cold, flu, or dis-ease. Hospitals charge an arm and a leg for an IV, their time, a band-aid and more, instead of simply administering the fast acting charcoal.

Whether it is food poisoning, the stomach flu, or a hangover, it’s great to always have charcoal tablets or capsules on hand. Even eating burnt toast can burnt-toasthelp, and you get the added benefit of teeth whitening. The charcoal soaks up the poison that is causing the vomiting and/or diarrhea. I’ve given children as young as 3 my blend of charcoal. Takes their tears away in seconds. I kid you not – it works fast and every home should have.  Poking and prodding can be a thing of the past if hospitals administered charcoal first.

In the past 15 years I’ve only gotten the flu twice and a sinus infection once. I no longer get sick because my gut is rather clean from real food, regular detox, and adding probiotics to my diet daily; homemade ones (kefir and kombucha), not store bought watered down, expensive packaged ones. Antibiotics are wreaking havoc on the health of many. Probiotics can only undo so much damage. Charcoal helps put the fire out and get you past the vomiting and diarrhea stage quickly, and it does so without ruining your gut flora/good bacteria.

Using probiotics as a green light to take antibiotics only buys you time. Antibiotics create an imbalance in your gut and can damage your kidneys. Half the people on dialysis are on it because of antibiotics. I learned this from a customer whose job was hooking people up to the machine.

With a real food diet, regular detox, probiotics, good hygiene, washing/soaking produce, washing our hands, and overall preventative lifestyle, we can get back to the healthier generations of yesteryear. For now we are headed to a world where parents are outliving their children. And why? Because of their demanding taste buds that have become acclimated to fake, fast, processed, addicting and fattening so-called food. Having been a single parent for a year to four lil ones (ages 1, 5, 8, and 10), it only took me one week to get them all loving home cooked meals. Prior to this, processed snacks were their meals. I quickly learned children are not the picky eaters parents make them out to be.

With our gut being responsible for anywhere between 60 to 80% of our immune system (depending on what/where you read), this is good reason to keep it clean and only give it what is was designed to take in. We would never put harmful ingredients in our gas tank or oil reservoir and expect it to run smooth and last long, yet that’s what’s being done day in day out with the engine that drives us. Perhaps we need an owner’s manual for our own upkeep.

Either way, prevention is key! To help replenish lost fluids, consider drinking coconut water. It can be used to replenish lost electrolytes, minerals, and more. Best, freshest, and most cost effective way to get is to buy a case from Asian markets, cut open, drain, scoop meat out, and blend. Water can be added.

If we’re not willing to settle for junk living, we certainly shouldn’t settle for junk food.   ~Sally Edwards~
