Need A BRAIN DETOX? Sleep On Your Side

By on August 10, 2015

Interesting. However, while I always see the glass half full, I do know that sleeping face down can cause wrinkles. Plus, if you’ve got circulation problems, side sleeping isn’t always an option.

Circulation can be more than a heart problem. While the causes may be many, for me it is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) induced. It’s precisely why I sleep like a rotisserie chicken. Back, right side, belly, left side, back. REPEAT. And while sleeping on my back is the most comfy, it does get boring. If you’re the type to not fall asleep the minute your head hit the pillow, you know what I mean.

Brain detox via the glymphatic system is nothing new. The position on which it happens, is (to me at least). According to researchers from Stony Brook University, here in the United States:

“Side sleeping opens a passage in the brain called the glymphatic pathway that dispels waste and other chemicals.”

They Had Me At DETOX

Ever wake up with your head feeling like a ton of bricks. And this without having had gotten drunk or taken a sleeping pill? I have and I don’t take sleeping pills or get drunk.

While it doesn’t say which side to sleep on, I reckon it’s kinda like putting a glass of liquid on its side, the liquid will pour out either way. Knowing the power of detox, YAY is all I can say.

All in all. If sleeping on your side is a matter of sleep and no sleep. Sleep in whatever position that may be. Because it is during sleep that your body regenerates and hormones help regulate your weight. Among other things.

And if side sleeping isn’t an option for you, at least consider a whole body detox. It’ll do more than clear your bowel of toxic weight. It’ll help all the tubes and pathways above (and below) it. Like a clogged drain. Get the pipe cleared and the sink will drain. In this case, your brain is the sink and your body is the drain. Unplug one, and the other benefits.

“Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” ~Thomas Dekker~
